Welcome to Camp IO in Columbia!

Counting down! Blasting-off! Launching rockets! Exploring electric circuits! Creating magnetic art! Experiencing chemical reactions! Growing bacteria! Designing bridges! Building, discovering and engineering are all part of the hands-on, interactive fun at Camp IO Summer Science Camp - filled with action and excitement!

Now in its 13th year, Camp IO (formerly Operation Junk) is all about children having FUN, FUN and more FUN and being creative, innovative, natural inventors - all while exploring science and technology in a supportive environment.

And, YES, back by popular demand - Experiencing Yoga! At the end of each camp day, campers will roll out their yoga mats to stretch, relax and learn the fundamentals of yoga - all set to live music and sound effects.

Here's what a typical day at Camp IO looks like:

9 - 9:30am - Welcome, Check-In & Creative Activities
9:30 - 9:45am - Yoga Warm-Up
10am - 12noon - Science Project & Activities
12 - 1pm - Lunch and Outside Time
1 - 3pm - More Science Projects & Activities/Afternoon Snack
3 - 4pm - Yoga Fun
4pm - Dismissal

Week of July 29th - August 2nd - Nature Detectives: Take a look outside and investigate a world of light, color, and amazing creatures, big and small! Explore the life of cells. Grow bacteria. Create plant art. Experiment with natural light and color. Dissect nocturnal bird pellets… and much more!

Week of August 5th - 9th - Super Strong Structures: Design and build bridges, mini skyscrapers, and a variety of mind-bending geometric structures, using a variety of materials! Design and build a bridge that can support a heavy transport. Plan and construct a building that can withstand high winds. Explore complex geodesic dome structures. Construct a tunnel capable of safely transporting a toy car. Plan and build a miniature city … and much more!

Information & Restrictions

Camp IO Location: Kahler Hall, 5440 Old Tucker Row, Columbia MD 21044.

Camp IO is open to young inventors, yogis and yoginis ages 6 through 11.

Summer Camp Hours: 9am - 4pm daily. Before Care (8-9am) and AfterCare (4-5pm) are available for $5/hour -- payable directly to Camp IO.

Purchase of this Certificate entitles one child to one week of Camp IO. Multiple Certificates may be purchased for multiple weeks of camp for the same child - or for multiple children.

No need to choose your desired camp weeks now. You will choose your desired camp weeks when you register with Camp IO (see below) after purchasing your Certificate(s).

Campers bring their own lunches. Lunch is provided on Friday.

Daily snacks are provided. Camp IO is a nut-free environment.

Every Friday campers are treated to a special in-camp field trip featuring guests and activities based on the week's theme.
