Every summer since 1940, campers of all ages have flocked to "Congo Camp." Back by popular demand this year are select Specialty Camps and Academic Camps for rising 1st through 9th graders in Falls Church.

A jam-packed summer of learning and fun awaits! Congressional Camp will offer campers the opportunity to delve deeper into areas of interest, work through academic challenges and enrich their learning with hands-on experience in a variety of disciplines.

With new worlds to explore, friendships to be formed and the hallmark of "Congo Camp" - endless summer memories - your Happy Campers will be singing your praises for sending them to Congressional Camp in summer 2016.

iPad Digital Music - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders

Enter the age of digital music creation in this exciting program! Using iPads and iPad Minis, campers will learn how to play a variety of virtual instruments. Campers will also get the chance to mix and enhance music with a variety of mobile applications. Step into the DJ booth and let’s get ready to rock. 
 
Make It Your Own - Rising 5th & 6th Graders and Rising 7th, 8th & 9th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
Cooking from recipes is great, but the real fun starts when you start to get creative and change things up. Learn what parts of a recipe can be changed and how that will impact the dish. Additionally, you’ll learn some basic cooking techniques that can be applied to a variety of foods to create your own dishes without recipes.

Have you ever wanted to create something but not be able to take a trip to the art store? In this camp, we will explore various techniques for using everyday materials to create art. Cardboard sculptures, papier-mache, and handmade paper are just a few of the options.
 
Genetics and Cell Exploration - Rising 5th & 6th Graders and Rising 7th, 8th & 9th Graders - SOLD OUT !!
Location: Congressional Campus
Cells are the basic units of all living things, and if cells don’t function properly, they can affect an entire organism, causing diseases such as cystic fibrosis and cancer.  Learn the basics of cell structure and discuss the role of cell processes in disease.  Perform a chromosome spread of HeLa cells, a cell line commonly used in medical research, and observe the effects of toxins on mouse L929 cells.

Creative Writing Seminar - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Explore your inner writer with a seminar designed to allow students to write about anything and everything that interests them. After reading some examples, students will try their hand at writing poetry, streams of consciousness, personal narratives, short stories, creative non-fiction, movie/theater scripts, and so much more.
 
iPad Animation - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
Ever wondered how your favorite Pixar character came to life? Come learn the basics here at camp! Campers will use iPad animation to create their own animated memory. For this two-week session we will use explore the animation world by using some of the latest programs and devices technology has to offer. At the end, campers will have a better understanding for the intricate details that bring their favorite animated characters to life.
 
Maglev Racing Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
New this year to Congo Camp is Maglev Racing Cars! Campers will create a Maglev racing car using magnets and then race down a track they create. They will watch the cars levitate off the track and propelled down by an electric motor! Campers will learn and demonstrate their knowledge of magnets. Come take the Maglev wheel and race to the finish line.
 
Rainforest Ecology - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
Did you know that about 2% of Earth’s surface is home to nearly 45% of all known species of plants and animals?  Come learn about ancient old growth forests and tropical biodiversity hotspots.  We’ll study threatened species, learn about medicinal plants, and discuss how our actions impact the world around us.
 
Ready, Set, Read! Rising 1st & 2nd Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
In this language arts lab, emergent readers work on a range of skills including letter-sound recognition, using pictures to predict, and directional movement of text. Of course, they’ll be having so much fun with literature-related cooking, arts and crafts and dramatic play that they probably won’t even realize they’re learning how to read!
 
Ropes Adventure - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
With low elements and a high ropes course, this program provides campers with a unique opportunity for team building and gaining self-confidence. Our elaborate course includes a zip line and a 40-foot, three-sided climbing wall with 6 different approaches. You will go through a progression of initiatives ranging from simple to complex as you challenge each obstacle. All activities are supervised by our well-trained staff who will participate through demonstrations and individualized instruction.

There is no better way to learn about nature than to experience it through art.  So, pack your camping gear and join us for this exciting art camp where we take a virtual trip through the forest.  Kids will create art that is from nature and inspired by nature.  Nature is a place of beauty.  Let’s capture that beauty through your child’s original art!
 
Computer Building - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
Sure you love playing on computers, but have you ever wanted to learn how a computer actually works? How do parts and pieces turn into must-have machines? In this hands-on program, campers will explore what it takes to create a working computer. We will even have the chance to build our own computers. So get booted up and join us as we put it all together! 
 
Grammar Made Fun - Rising 5th & 6th Graders and Rising 7th, 8th & 9th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Through games, interactive activities, and even some playful competitions, students will explore the English language and the many rules that define it.
 
iPad Stop Motion Filming - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
Tell your story, one frame at a time. In iPad Stop Motion Filming, we can make movie magic with our fingertips. Using iPads and iPad Minis, campers will learn how to make their very own stop motion films. Become the writer, director, and animator of your work. Learn to string together a sequence of photos and watch your images come to life through the fine art of stop motion. Make an elephant talk, a magic carpet spring to life, or a dragon spread wings and fly…with iPad and imagination, anything is possible! 
 
Lego Advanced - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
This challenging program is designed especially for our expert Lego builders. Campers will spend two weeks tackling some of the most advanced Lego sets including the space shuttle, Tower Bridge, Falling Water and many more.
 
Lego Star Wars - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Get ready to make a Lego fan’s dream come true. This unique opportunity will allow campers to design and build as far as their imagination will take them. This two-week session will focus on the Star Wars series of Legos. Campers will have their chance to assemble and explore both classic Star Wars sets, as well as the Clone Wars series. May the force be with you!
 
Numbers and Cents - Rising 1st & 2nd Graders and Rising 3rd & 4th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Math lovers and learners will focus on number sense, algebraic reasoning, and computation as they explore areas of positive and negative numbers, fractions, decimals, and money. Logic problems and puzzles will help campers apply their understanding with mathematical reasoning.
 
Pony Adventure - Rising 1st & 2nd Graders and Rising 3rd & 4th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
Have you ever wanted a pony? Here is your chance to have a real pony experience without having to build a stable in your backyard. The program will consist of learning about the care, feeding, grooming and needs of horses. Campers will have a 20 minute personalized lesson each day. In addition to riding, you will learn about teamwork and the importance of safety when being around ponies.

Star Lab - Rising 1st & 2nd Graders and Rising 3rd & 4th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Get ready for a journey that’s out of this world. Campers will embark on a mission to the outer reaches of the solar system. Connect to the stars when we visit the planetarium and learn to identify the famous constellations. Get star struck with Orion, Cassiopeia, and the Big Dipper as you learn where these star stories originated. Discover why stars seem to twinkle, how asteroids made history, and where the Milky Way can take us. Campers can even light up their learning after hours with special events like astronomy night! 
 
Time Travelers - Rising 1st & 2nd Graders and Rising 3rd & 4th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
This exciting program will take campers through history, as we dive into Ancient Civilizations. Write in hieroglyphics, build model pyramids, make papyrus, cast sun-dried bricks, and learn about mummification. Are your ready for this journey through time?

Anatomy and Physiology - Rising 7th, 8th & 9th Graders
Location: Congressional Campus
This challenging course will provide students an opportunity to learn the language of anatomy and explore the physiology of major human organ systems.  Students will examine cells, tissues, and organs through microscopy and dissection; observe and interpret clinical data; and delve into the principles of medical ethics with a discussion of topics such as stem cell research, genetic discrimination, human rights, and medical negligence. 
 
Codes, Rockets, and Racecars - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Ever wanted to know what it is like to be James Bond? Campers at this camp will learn how to send rockets into the air and decode encryption to find the answers to the biggest mysteries. Join us to learn how to decode messages and learn about all of 007′s gadgets.

Build and construct their favorite shops and hang outs in Heartlake City. The fun times are endless when it comes to creating a hands on experience with Lego Friends.

If you love to read (and who doesn’t?) this is the camp for you. Read, write, and listen as we explore all sorts of genres, authors, and styles in a camp that is meant to be as fun as it is educational.
 
Scrapbooking- Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
Capture memories in creative keepsake albums to share with friends and family. Campers will learn to design their own exciting layouts and themed pages. They will work with photos incorporating family moments, favorite places to visit and finally, what they love about Congressional Camp. 
 
Summer Stage - Rising 3rd & 4th Graders and Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Location: Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
“All the world’s a stage, and the men and women merely players.” Join us this summer as we learn exactly what it takes to make it in the world of the performing arts. Campers will study the history of theater dating back to the Ancient Greeks, build sets and props, learn lighting and sound design, and write and perform their own skits and plays. In addition, theater professionals will be on hand to teach future thespians using firsthand knowledge of the DC performing arts community.
