Bean to Bar + Chocolate Creations: Discover where chocolate comes from, make chocolate from bean to bar, and create awesome creations from chocolate.
- Hands-on activities include roasting, deshelling, grinding cacao beans, and applying chocolate to Jewish-themed lollipop molds!
- The new 35-foot screen and lighting rig add a fun dimension to the exploration of the role food plays in Jewish culture
- This workshop is geared toward families and young audiences, but is open to adults, too.
Truffle Making Madness: In this workshop, CITs (chocolatiers in training) learn the art of truffle making!
- Hands-on activities include inserting ganaches, applying an outer layer of chocolate, and scraping off the surface of the mold
- As the chocolate sets, the audience will discover the fascinating connection of Jews and chocolate; the new 35ft screen and lighting add a great dimension to the presentation.
Candle Making: Havdalah, the multi-sensory ceremony, plays a central role in Jewish culture and tradition. This workshop zones into the secrets behind each of the important components of the service and concludes with a candle-making experience. Participants dip long wicks into hot beeswax and watch in awe as the wax hardens and creates the traditional braided Havdalah candle.
JScience Madness!: The Summer Madness series is not limited to any particular theme. The workshops are presented in a highly entertaining format, drawing on children’s love of science and experimentation, and engage children in dramatic experiences that “wow” with science while teaching Jewish values and an overall positive message!
Torah Unwrapped: Thousands of years before it found its way to a printing press, the handwritten Torah scroll was at the heart of Judaism. It can still be found, in its same form, as the focal point of any Jewish center around the globe. Torah Unwrapped examines the history and the process of making a Torah scroll.
- The workshop includes: Examining multiple hides fit for use for a Torah, the process of turning hide into parchment, fun facts about the Torah, making ink from scratch using a mortar and pestle, and a crash course in writing with an authentic quill on parchment.
- Participants walk away understanding what goes into the making of this important piece of Jewish history and culture, and piece of authentic parchment with their name written on it, and inserted inside a beautiful rustic wood-bark holder!
