In like a lion and out like a lamb; March is here! As temperatures start to warm up (fingers crossed!), blossoms will start to appear on trees and flowers, setting the stage for Washington, D.C.'s signature spring event, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and all of the fun family activities that come along with it.     The U.S. Army Band "Perishing Own" is celebrating Fat Tuesday with Swamp Romp! A group of Lousiana expatriates brings the sounds of South Lousiana with traditional and original compositions of New Orleans jazz, zydeco, and Cajun music. Bring the family to enjoy this free concert on March 5th at 6 p.m. on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage.

Join Professor Wingnut and his friend Seymour Seagull as they explore the science of flight at the National Air and Space Museum on March 21st at 10:15 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Venture along with this amazing duo as they learn what makes things fly through songs, science, and an awesome flight-tastic dance party. This program is recommended for children ages 3-8. It is free to attend the event but tickets are required and everyone must have a ticket to enter, including children under the age of 2.

The Music Box Concert Series
features a small ensemble of BSO musicians performing light-hearted classical and children's tunes in a highly engaging and interactive format for children ages 6 months - 3 years. The theme for the March 23rd performance is "Alphabet Soup", with two shows to choose from at 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. The fun begins 30 minutes prior to the show where a range of musical activities are available to entertain your little ones. All attendees need a ticket and seating is general admission. Bring a blanket for the floor to get comfortable as your family enjoys this interactive concert experience. No strollers are permitted.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival
Join in this annual celebration commemorating Japan's gift to the U.S. in 1912 of the 3,000 cherry trees that adorn the Tidal Basin in pink blossoms each spring and honoring the lasting friendship between these two countries. Cherry Blossom Celebration at Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) - FREE
SAAM and the National Cherry Blossom Festival are co-hosting a celebration of Japanese culture on March 23rd from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. in Kogod Courtyard. The day begins with a taiko drumming performance, followed by Japanese music and performances. At the SAAM Cherry Blossom Celebration guests can enjoy a spring-themed scavenger hunt and participate in cherry blossom crafts and face painting.

Experience a fun-filled afternoon of science activities in the Museum's Learning Center on Saturday, March 23rd from 1 - 3 p.m. This month’s theme is Handwriting, Forgery, and Counterfeiting and guests will learn how to detect counterfeit bills, explore handwriting analysis and more! Learn what it takes to be a Paleontologist on Fossil Family Night at the Natural History Museum. Fossil Family Night takes place on March 30th at 6 p.m.
