Have you heard the BIG news? Port Discovery Children's Museum at Baltimore's Inner Harbor unveiled several HUGE new exhibits last week. These super cool, interactive features are meant for kids to touch, explore and investigate. With school out and summer in full swing, learning through play is the perfect way to spend a hot or stormy day. Our COO, Amie Morville, did just that, checking out the new exhibits with her 8-year-old daughter and her two gal pals. Enjoy this photo diary of their experience and take a sneak peek at this summer's can't-miss indoor fun.
Upon arrival, the first thing you see is this towering, colorful replica of a traditional Baltimore city rowhome. The girls' jaws dropped -- literally! They couldn't wait to go in and explore.
Next up, we were amazed at the BRAND NEW Skyclimber and Port exhibits. Spanning the entire four stories of the museum, they are visually stunning! This is an aerial shot of both exhibits from the top floor:
The Skyclimber sparks imagination and courage, as kids climb up into the "clouds" and then slide down a twirly slide. The slide was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The girls couldn't get enough of it. We saw folks of every age, from toddler to grownup, giving it a whirl and beaming with smiles as they popped out at the bottom.
If the Skyclimber seems a bit too advanced for your little one (you know your child best!), there's also Chessie's Grotto, an underwater-themed soft play area just beside the slide. Although the girls are entering 3rd grade, they still thoroughly enjoyed this feature.
Next we decided to head upstairs to check out The Port, one of the other brand new exhibits. The GIANT S.S. Friendship (modeled after a life-sized cargo ship) sets imaginations asail. Kids can captain the boat, explore an engine room, and learn about the Port of Baltimore. Our crew's favorite part? Operating the gantry crane and trying to catch the foam blocks as they came over the top.
The recent renovation also offers new family seating (save some money and pack a lunch!), plus updated restrooms. If you're Port Discovery veterans like us, and you're worried about missing some of your old favorites ... Have no fear! Most are still there, including the Art Studio, Convenience Store, Tot Trails, Tiny's Diner, and Wonders of Water. The Here We Grow exhibit was new to us since our last visit, and the girls loved it!
What a day! The girls had an absolute blast checking out Port Discovery's new exhibits, and we can't wait to head back ... this time with my 4-year-old son, who I know will go bonkers for that amazing new slide!
Stay tuned for more, but in the meantime check out our Activities & Events for tons of summer fun up to 50% off.
