What makes this camp truly special are the people - from the campers, who come from all over and become new and lasting friends, to the counselors and specialists, who mentor and serve as "older brothers and sisters," and finally, to the owners who get right in there and set the standard for a summer of fun and adventure. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes this a perfect option for the first-time sleepaway camper. Your child, age 7-15, will enjoy the ultimate summer camp experience - a traditional camp setting with camp-wide traditions and celebrations, lakefront access to a variety of water sports, a heated pool, riding facilities, sports fields, a 12,000 sq. ft. indoor gym, dance studio, arts center and so much more! Campers spend each day in two camp-directed activities alongside their cabin-mates, pushing them to try new things and discover new talents. They then have the the freedom to choose 3-4 more daily activities based on their individual interests. Each week introduces new options to choose from and popular activities include Animal Care, Archery, Glassblowing, Sailing, Horseback Riding, Theater (offering 2 musicals per summer), Waterskiing and Wakeboarding - to learn more about the programs offered at Camp Chateaugay, check out the videos HERE. All programs are led by experienced instructors who have undergone extensive training, offering each camper a safe, encouraging environment. Campers are housed alongside campers of the same age/gender in cabins outfitted with electricity and full bathrooms. All meals are taken in The Big House - a place that encourages community and bonding through singing, dancing and a whole lot of fun! At the end of the day, campers can enjoy campfires and a visit to the onsite Aurora Borealis Creamery for a sweet treat! TEEN PROGRAMS Older campers, ages 16-17 can choose to participate in Camp Chateaugay's Counselor in Training program, where participants learn how to effectively mentor and lead younger campers. Each CIT works with an assigned group during the day and helps to run evening programs and camp-wide special events. They are entitled to free time every day and one "day off" during the week where they can to join camp staff on day trips off-site or on long outdoor excursions.  For adventurous boys and girls, age 15, there is Camp Chateaugay's Wilderness program. For this program, campers typically enroll in a full summer session at Camp Chateaugay, enabling them to experience 3, five-day trips away from camp. The group selects and plans a bicycling tour, a canoe trip, and a backpacking adventure. Leading up to the offsite adventure, trip planning and physical and mental preparation takes place in the mornings, while campers enjoy a regular camp experience onsite during the afternoons and evenings. The intensity of the experience allows for a great deal of personal and emotional growth for each participant. For more information about the teen programs, click HERE.
