Learn About the Women's Suffrage Movement at the Maryland Historical Society

March is Women's History Month and the Maryland Historical Society is hosting a special Youth Program: Votes for Women! on Sunday, March 8th at 10 a.m. focusing on the women's suffrage movement. Join a Women's Suffrage March, create your own "Votes for Women" sash and write a speech advocating for a woman's right to vote, learn bout some of the heroines of the movement and what it would have been like to be a girl at that time. This program is ideal for ages 6-12. The fee is $10 per child (adults are free) and registration is required.

Celebrate Pi(e) Day at the Maryland Science Center

March 14th is the most mathematical and delicious day of the year at the Maryland Science Center! Learn interesting facts about the number used to calculate the circumference of a circle while indulging in the sweet circular dessert of the same name (different spelling). Go on a Pi scavenger hunt, take a chance at getting Pi(ed) in the face during the Pi(e) Roulette, watch pie tins full of funky fillings fly off the Science Center roof, assist in building a lengthy Pi chain up the grand staircase, take part in a pie eating contest and more! This event is free with paid admission.

Baltimore St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Bring the wee ones out to experience the best of the Emerald Isle! A Baltimore tradition that has been dazzling spectators for more than 60 years, the St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place on March 15th this year with step off at 2 p.m. Enjoy Irish dancers, local marching bands, bagpipers, beautiful floats and even a few Philadelphia Mummers appearances at this fun family event. Arrive early (1:15 p.m.) to cheer on runners at the always sold-out Shamrock 5K race and get a good viewing spot. The parade starts at the Washington Monument, heads south on Charles Street and continues to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. (Quick note: Walter's Art Gallery graciously allows parade viewers to use their bathroom facilities free of charge!)

Catch a Leprechaun at Anita C. Leight Estuary Center in Abingdon

Have you ever tried to catch a leprechaun? Head to the Estuary Center on Sunday, March 15th from 3 - 4:30 p.m. to create a "lucky" garden so you can try to lure one in this year! Registration is required and all materials will be provided.

Chase St. Patrick's Snakes at Lake Roland

Legend has it that Ireland has St. Patrick to thank for its lack of snakes, but we’re thankful for the many snakes that call Lake Roland home! The Walters Art Museum is hosting a special evening of accessible programming designed specifically for children with Sensory Processing Disorders and their families on March 28th from 4 - 6 p.m. They welcome families at the end of the day, allowing you to enjoy activities in a quieter, less stimulating environment. Educators from the Museum and therapists from Kennedy Krieger Institute will be present to facilitate activities throughout the galleries and art studio. Excited voices, weighted blankets and vests, earplugs and headphones, hand fidgets, moments for breaks, wheelchairs and other mobility devices are welcomed.

Celebrate Women's History Month at the Jewish Museum of Maryland

The JMM is celebrating Women's History Month on Sunday, March 29th with a special Hands On Family Time program focused on discovering the stories of some of the most inspiring women in JMM's collection. Guests will participate in hands-on activities to honor amazing women from history and today that are appropriate for all ages. In partnership with Jewish Volunteer Connection and in honor of Good Deeds Day, guests will also be able to participate in a service project to support women in the community.
