The National Building Museum is a family favorite any time of year, but they really kick up the family fun quotient in the summer months with their exciting Summer Block Party installations.

Every summer since 2014, the Museum has unveiled a new, immersive installation that takes up the entirety of its Great Hall, providing an interactive, experiential play zone for all ages. Last summer, Museum guests got to play around in the Fun House, designed by Snarkitecture, which came complete with a kidney-shaped pool filled with hundreds of thousands of recyclable plastic balls.

Other Summer Block Party installations included The BIG Maze (2014), The BEACH (2015), ICEBERGS (2016), and Hive (2017).

This summer, the NBM recently announced that visitors will get to run around and play on The Lawn! The Museum is collaborating with the LAB at Rockwell Group on The Lawn installation, the same group who designed and developed their hugely popular PLAY WORK BUILD exhibit where kids get to build their own structures out of giant blocks. (Save 50% off National Building Museum admission, including PLAY WORK BUILD, with this CertifiKID deal.)

The Museum has not released any details about The Lawn installation yet, but we're keeping our fingers crossed for a massive Slip 'N Slide!

The Lawn will open July 4th and run through September 2, 2019. We anticipate that, as in year's past, Museum members will get first dibs on tickets. The installation is complemented by programs and events, and ticket purchasers will be able to visit all of the Museum's exhibitions. You can sign up on the NBM's website for updates.
