National Donut Day 2018: Where to Score Your Freebies!

Sweet treat lovers, rejoice! National Donut Day (or is it doughnut?) is this Friday, June 1st! Many retailers celebrate this joyous occasion by bestowing freebies and delicious deals on their customers. Lucky us!

Believe it or not, there is real history behind this annual celebration of deliciousness that is observed on the first Friday of June. It was first established in 1938 as a fund raiser for the Salvation Army in Chicago to honor the Salvation Army "Lassies" who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. The Salvation Army continues to celebrate their work today by delivering donuts to those in need and hosting fun activities across the country. This year, they are teaming up with Entenmann's to deliver donuts to more than 8,500 veterans from coast to coast. Pretty sweet, right?

Check out this list of National Donut Day freebies that you can score this year!

Duck Donuts. Free classic donut at any Duck Donuts location on June 1st. This includes their bare, cinnamon sugar, or powered sugar donut. No purchase necessary. Customers will also receive a buy one, get one free donut coupon redeemable before June 17th.

Dunkin' Donuts. Free classic donut of your choice with the purchase of any beverage. Classic donuts will be all dressed up for the occasion with new names and designs! You can also test your donut IQ with a single voice command using the Dunkin' Donuts skill for Alexa. Enable the Dunkin' Donuts skill in your Alexa app and say "Alexa, open Dunkin' Donuts."

Edible Arrangements. One free Edible® Donut to anyone who stops by one of their locally owned stores on June 1st. Donuts are crafted with crisp, donut-shaped Granny Smith Apple slices hand-dipped in real, gourmet chocolate.

Fractured Prune. One free OC Sand Doughnut at participating stores.

Krispy Kreme. Free donut of your choice at participating Krispy Kreme locations nationwide. No purchase necessary.

Papa John's. Free order of warm donut holes - cinnamon sugar-coated treats filled with caramel crème - with any online purchase on June 1st. Starting June 2nd, you can use promo code DONUT to get a free order any time you purchase two pizzas.

Sugar Shack Donuts & Coffee. Sugar Shack offers a daily freebie with varying wacky requirements (e.g., wear your College Alma Mater swag for a free house donut). Check their Facebook page for their June 1st freebie.

Walmart. One free glazed donut at all Walmart stores on June 1st.
