Real Mom Review: Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole in Reston, Virginia

Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole is an Old West-themed water park located at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Virginia. This Fairfax County Park Authority water park offers over an acre of water attractions for all ages, including multiple slides, flumes, sprays, interactive water playground, lazy river, and even a floating obstacle course!
We sent one of our MOM Squad ambassadors and her family to experience the Water Mine. They received free admission in exchange for providing an honest review of their experience.

Our family had a blast at the Water Mine Family Swimming Hole! After a child height-check and bag-check, we entered through a restroom and changing area and scouted out a shady spot. Plenty of huge umbrellas lined the perimeter of the water park with chairs and loungers to relax both on concrete and on grassy areas. However, to ensure a shady spot it’s probably best to arrive early in the day or in the afternoon.
After getting setup and sun-screened, we headed out to check out the fun. Our kids were very excited about the water slides (Big Pete was a favorite!), as there were a good number to choose from!
They also enjoyed the lazy “Rattlesnake River” (although it was a bit too crowded for me to call it relaxing), and walking across the floating log obstacles in the pool area.
It was nice to see a smaller baby pool area “Tenderfoot Pond” and smaller slides around the pool for those not yet ready for the bigger excitement. A tipping-bucket with climbing area and water spray features was also lots of fun for the swimmers and puddle-jumper crowd alike.
As a mom, I was very thankful to see lifeguards in abundance, constantly checking the water, keeping the slide queue well organized, and maintaining safety. Plenty of life jackets were available to borrow for free, too. A ten-minute break ended each hour, which gave kids a chance to re-hydrate or eat a snack, and also set a reminder for bathroom breaks, helping ensure that the water park stays open.
Although we were able to bring snacks in with us (and saw many guests who took advantage with their own cooler bags), there was also a snack stand area with everything from cold drinks and water ice to nachos and hot dogs.
We would enjoy returning to this local hot spot. It’s a great way to spend a few hours or a full day in the sun while cooling off from the summer heat!
