Duke’s basketball phenom, Zion Williamson, will soon be headed to the NBA, and now, thanks to Disney, even us normal folks can get a taste of what it feels like to be a superstar baller.
Walt Disney World Resort recently announced August 12th as the official opening date of the NBA Experience, a brand-new destination coming to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. A collaboration between the NBA and Disney, the NBA Experience will be a two-story, 44,000-square foot, totally interactive destination filled with hands-on fun for basketball fans of all ages.
"When we were young, we played basketball in our driveways or in the park, creating those imaginary moments of making the game-winning shot for a championship," said Stan Dodd, executive producer, Walt Disney Imagineering. "We want to take that energy and help you feel what it's like to be an actual NBA or WNBA player."
The experience starts with a walk through the players’ tunnel and progresses through a series of 13 interactive elements and personalized activities where visitors can test their skills and see how they measure up to their favorite players. NBA wannabes will even be able to capture their own superstar dunking moves by burst photography. How cool is that?!
Other elements of the NBA Experience include real-time updates and leaderboards of NBA games and players and, of course, a retail store selling NBA-themed merch.
If you have a basketball fan in your fam, now's the time to set your sights on a late summer or fall Disney trip!
